I NEED YOUR HELP!

Hi guys! It's been a while since I last posted a blog (but do know that my Youtube channel is very much active :)) and now, I am writing to tell you guys about this wonderful competition of Naga City Guide, which I would need your help to win.

So, Naga City Guide is giving away five 3D/2N stay in Naga City! Included in the package are of course, hotel accommodation, food trip, spa, city and heritage tour, loot bag, and shirt!

I've been in Naga City before, but it was such a short time that I was not able to see the sights, like Mt. Isarog, which I heard to be a very beautiful place. I also want to see what the city has to offer, since my mom was from Naga and she told me wonderful stories about the city. I also want to see Ina, because I heard of her miracles! I want to try out the local cuisine, especially the desserts OMG!

Check out the prizes to be won on this Naga City Vacation link (especially if you guys also want to join the competition). #UltimateNagaVacation

If you guys are interested in hearing me plead and express my excitement on this competition, check out my pleading video below :D

I HOPE I WIN!!!! Going to Naga would be an awesome addition to my travel vlog!!! #fingerscrossed

Cat in the Bus Compartment?!?!

Today, April 13, my mom and I were in a loooooooooong line at the bus terminal of Genesis in Pasay City. Our cat, Jerbie, was with us (it's Holy Week and we were headed to my father's province); she was caged and leashed. Knowing Jerbie, who is afraid of EVERYTHING and EVERYONE, she was cowering inside her carrier, not making ANY sound.

We arrived at the bus terminal at around 5 in the morning (we left home at 4:15) and we were in the looooooong line for three and half hours. There were people cutting in the line, two people reserving for seven people, so naturally, I was pissed of, majorly. My mom and I were ranting all over the place, our fellow passengers-waiting-in-the-line doing the same thing.

When FINALLY, we were a few people away from entering the Saulog bus, the dispatcher, conductor, bus driver, practically almost everyone working for Genesis and/or Saulog told us that we have to put Jerbie INSIDE THE BUS COMPARTMENT! AS IN THE ONE BENEATH THE BUS!! THE ONE OPEN ON THE SIDE OF THE BUS AND FEELS HELLISH HOT WHEN OPENED!!

Can you not see that she's afraid?!?!
I felt like I was electrocuted. My mom, too. We pleaded to let Jerbie in with us, saying that she's caged and leashed a
nd quiet, but NOOOOOOOOO! They insisted that we put her in the baggage compartment.

Bes, iba yung shock ko. Sabi nga, I was shooked! Jerbie is a cat which has a life!! We took care and is currently taking care of Jerbie for five years already! She got lost and I found her before. My mom regularly goes to the vet to have Jerbie vaccinated. AND NOW, YOU'RE TELLING US TO STOW OUR PRECIOUS CAT IN YOUR OVEN TOASTER OF A BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT?!?! She's scared of her fellow cats! She likes cold water! THEN YOU'RE TELLING US TO KEEP HER INSIDE A DARK AND EXTREMELY HOT COMPARTMENT FOR THREE, POSSIBLY LONGER, HOURS?!?! ARE YOU FREAKIN'G KIDDING ME?!?!?!

I know, we may be in fault as well. We should've asked the moment we got there whether our cat would be allowed in. Should we have, we could have hired another taxi the moment we got there and by the time I am writing this (at 10:30AM), we could've been lounging in my granparents' old home.

I just assumed that Jerbie will be allowed in, since I recall seeing roosters (for cockfight) inside provincial buses before. I also assumed that since Jerbie is caged, and leashed, and is practically mute, she would be allowed in. Apparently not.

How could you let a cat ride the core of a bus?!?
But then again, WHY ARE ANIMALS NOT PERMITTED INSIDE BUSES?! It's not as if we had a pig or a horse with us! It's not as if we did not prepare Jerbie's cage!

So, what did we do? We hired a cab to bring us to Pampanga. We paid P2,000.00 for a ride to SM San Fernando, rather than pay for less than 500-peso ride for two that would have brought us almost a stone-throw away from my grandparents' old home with the possibility of Jerbie becoming a cat mush. We actually thought of going back home even after all those waiting.  We would have rather wasted three and half hours than let our beloved cat die in fear and suffocation.

Even at Barney's Burger, where we had our lunch, we were not allowed in because Jerbie was with us. JERBIE WAS IN A FREAKING CAGE!!!!

It's just unfair! I wonder what PETA and PAWS has to say about these kinds of animal cruelty.

Here's my vlog on our Holy Week vacation, day 1:

Youtubers Galore!

Last March 5, I went to Glorietta for the #YTLoungeCreatorsMeetup. It was amazing to see so many Youtubers in one place! And it was also amazing to see the fans fawning over their (our) idol Youtubers!

In the event were Anne Clutz, Michelle Dy, Say Tioco, Anna Cay, Janina Vela, Mikey Bustos, Kristine Roces, Zendee (the girl who went viral for singing fabulously in a karaoke in a mall), Lloyd Cadena, and Ana Victorino. Andrea Brillantes was also there (just for the photo op). Erwan Heussaff was supposed to be there, too, but I think he was sick that day. Jayden Rodrigues and Joanna Soh were also there.

I wasn't really expecting to get a chance to meet them in person since I did not join the raffle of Ayala Malls. Actually, I wanted to. But when I saw their advertisement saying that they have a raffle which anyone can join by creating a vlog, I saw it on the day the raffle was to be drawn. So on March 5, I went to Glorietta, thinking that I will just stand on the sides, shout to my favorite Youtubers to get their attention, just like the rest of the crowd. And I was not wrong.

Before the event started, Globe had this raffle thing, too, where you will pay P50 for load and register for an UnliSurf and do a few online stuff, which would grant you an entry for the meet and greet raffle. Unfortunately, I did not win there, but I got three Globe stuff like a face towel, a pencil case pouch (or something like that), and a Globe coin purse. I really wanted their notebook, but I did not win that either.

Then, I saw this line of people going to the event area. Apparently, Ayala was selling their popcorns for the fans to gain entry in their general admissions area. I saw that those already in the gen ad area were being transferred inside, where they will have a chance to meet the Youtubers. So, I bought their popcorn and two bottles of water for P150 and I was ushered in.

Then, they called us in the gen ad area and started transferring people. When it was my turn (or at least, when I thought it was my turn), they checked my numbered bracelet and said that they will only allow people until 150 - I WAS 152!!! The event started and I was stuck in the gen ad area.

The meetup event was actually Q&A session with the Youtubers. They were asked stuff like, what advice could you give to people who want to venture in Youtube, when did they feel they were already famous, any makeup advice, what is Joanna Soh's favorite exercise, blah, blah, blah.

The whole time, I was trying to get the attention of my favorite Youtubers (Anne Clutz, Michelle Dy, Joanna Soh, and Say Tioco). I only had my phone with me, so I opened my Snapchat and wrote their names on it and flashed my phone up whenever they look at my general direction. It was only Anne Clutz who noticed me. Well, Michelle Dy also did, but it was after I shouted her name and flashed my phone up. Say Tioco looked at me, too, when I shouted her name. Joanna Soh, on the other hand, for some reason, left the stage during the photo ops and went to the gen ad area. I didn't notice her, until one woman told me that she was there. So, I had my photo and video taken with her, as well as her autograph.

During the photo ops, two women were quite angry. They were ranting that they paid P150 for the gen ad entry but they could not get their photos taken with the Youtubers. I sympathize with them, but I did not want to cause a scene. Then after a while, a woman who was with me and a few others in the gen ad area pointed that the two ranting women were in already inside, getting in line for the photos!

That was when we approached the events coordinator (or something). We told him our sentiments, how unfair it was that we were not allowed in, when the ranting women were. He brought another events guy who explained that the two women won the globe raffle. They explained that the gen ad was really supposed for the fans, but those in the gen ad area won't really have the chance to meet the Youtubers. They explained that the main area was for the Ayala Malls raffle winners, but then they didn't came (or didn't join) so the first 150 from the gen ad were brought in.

While I was trying to catch the attention of my favorite Youtubers, one camera man told me that I could slip inside the main audience area. I wanted to, but there were six other fans who wanted to get in. I thought it would be unfair for them if I get in by sneaking in, and they won't. Needless to say, I stuck outside with them.

We (me and 6 other fans who really wanted to meet the Youtubers) plead, lied, got angry, reasoned out to the events people, but we were still not allowed in. What made things a bit worse, was that after the Youutbers asked for a break, the personnel brought two gigantic fans for the Youtubers and blocked the view of the people in gen ad. After 10 minutes, they realized that we, unfortunate souls, could not see what was happening, and moved the fans away.

Then three of us went to the sides of the stage. I really should've done that earlier, since the Youtubers were entertaining their fans from the sides and not from the back!

Here's the vlog I did on the event :)

Don't Sing Along Challenge

There is this trend spreading online, which is the Don't Sing Along Challenge, where, as the title suggests, one should try not to sing along to songs. Most songs in this challenge are catchy songs, like commercial jingles, popular songs, and nostalgic songs. There are many versions of this online, some even challenges you not to dance along to the song!

There is a Filipino version called Ang Kumanta, Talo Challenge, which, fortunately, allows the challenge takers to dance along to the songs. I thought this would be an easy challenge, but hell, no! Good thing I am allowed to dance, because if not, I wouldn't get a slight chance of successfully finishing this challenge.

The creator of this Pinoy version challenge (ChorvaQueen) said that there will be a part 3! I'm super excited to do that!!!

Here are my videos doing the challenge. ENJOY!!

Tinay Goes Theater-ing

Hello guys! Hahaha!

Nung Sabado, nagpunta ako sa show ng TAP (Theater in Alternative Platforms) - yung Ampalaya Monlogues nila, at nanood din ako ng Wicked.

Ampalaya Molonogues

Tapos, super friendly nilang lahat!

Sumali kasi ako sa internship kineme nila, at nung Sabado yung unang beses kong sumama sa event nila as part of the internship kemeroo.

Seasonal ang shows nila, dapat abangan niyo at manood kayo.

Wicked

So, Wicked. Wicked was... well, wicked! Hahaha! Another perfection itu! Charot!

May mechanical dragon sila sa set (na medyo naloka ako kung bakit meron dahil as far as I saw, wala namang ibang function yung dragon bukod sa manakot... baka yun talaga ang purpose niya) na gumagalaw talaga! At least, yung ulo, kamay, at pakpak. Yung buong set nila, amazing talaga! World class!

But not for the Wicked cast.

Ramdam ko talaga yung message ng For Good, mangiyak-ngiyak nga ako eh. Kahit nga kaninang umaga nung pinanood ko yung pagkanta nila Idina at Kristin ng For Good, naiiyak pa rin ako eh. LOL, ang senti ko. The feels din yung Defying Gravity.

Pero more than the amazing songs, beautiful sets and costumes, at siyempre magaling na performers, na-realize ko yung social relevance nung musical; particularly sa line exchanges na 'to:

GLINDA: Well, I'm a public figure now! People expect me to --
ELPHABA: Lie?
GLINDA: Be encouraging!

Enjoy!

Tinay Tries Youtube

Hello guys! Since last September 2016, I've decided to create a Youtube channel, just because I want to try something new. My channel is [kinda] thriving, at the moment I have 21 subscribers and around an average of 40 views per video. But more than the viewers and subscribers and the likers, I enjoy creating materials for my channel. I think it is helping me channel my creativity and explore makeup and creating videos.

However, it would be nice to have more viewers and subscribers. I think it will help me grow as a Youtuber and a content creator, it will help with my creativity, and it's just gonna be more fun when you have a bigger online friends and family. As such, I am promoting my channel (and my Facebook page).

One thing you should know about my channel is that I am not an expert on anything I do there (makeup, singing, and vlogging), just like I did not claim to be an expert blogger here. I just want to try out new things (I've said that already) and have some fun. Actually, that is one of the small things I hate about being a Mass Comm graduate, I know a bit of everything and I want to try doing those things!!! Anyway, going back to my Youtube channel, I just created that (as well as this blog) to have an avenue to explore new things and to grow as a communicator. And while I'm doing my blog and vlog contents, I realized that I enjoy doing them. And I think that is the most important thing about life - doing and enjoying.

Just like when I created my Anjelica Huston Day celebration last January 22... I mean, I re-watched my all-time favorite film and at the same time, I created a Youtube content!

My latest video is a Valentine's date makeup tutorial (of sorts). I hope you'd take 11 minutes of your time and watch it :D

I hope you guys would watch my videos and help me grow :) So, please click the links below and let's be a one big happy family. I would love to hear your SROs: your suggestions, reactions, and opinions. Thank you!!! And just like what I say on my Youtube channel, NO HATE!

My Thoughts on Education

I think what is lacking in the Philippines' educational system, most especially in primary and secondary levels, is the social engagement factor. Many teachers would teach their respective subjects as if their students are majors of those field. Everything taught is by the book. Everything taught is theoretical.

For example in Science, we were taught of the different organ systems and their functions. We were taught to memorize the three tiny bones in the ear (hammer, anvil, and stirrup, wow, I remember!) We were taught of velocity and trajectory and chemical balancing and a lot of other stuff that at the time I was learning them, I only studied for the sake of passing. But what is the relevance of knowing trajectories, could I measure that and ensure the winning of my team if I am in the middle of playing basketball championships? Perhaps I could, but trajectory was not taught in that manner.

We were taught about the Dangerous Drug Board, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and other government agencies dedicated for the illegal drug problem in the country. We were taught about heroins, anti-depressants, and other types of drugs. I guess it was my lack of care that I did not appreciate what was taught to me. But maybe, just maybe, it was my teacher's lack of appreciation too in the subject s/he taught. Yes, we were taught about the effects of use of illegal drugs, but it did not hit home. It felt to me that it was just all theoretical.

That is until I was in college and more so recently, that I became socially aware of many things. When all I could do is revisit my memories of primary and secondary school, I realize the relevance of the stuff taught to me before.

Coming from a science class, we were taught that Science and Math are the most important subjects. We were e
xpected to become engineers and doctors and other 'brainy' professions. When I was in my first year of college, I felt I was a failure to my Alma mater because I was studying Mass Communication and not Mechanical Engineering or Bio Chem or Secondary Education major in Physics. But then I told myself "Duh, I don't want to eat numbers and symbols for breakfast and lunch and dinner!" I realized that Science and Math are not as important to the scientists and mathematicians out there than to, you know, regular people, for lack of a better word. I realized that the subjects I gave a little care, like Social Studies and Values Education, play a major role to giving a damn about my country.

In my primary and secondary education, I hated History. It was all about memorizing dates and places and names. But what I learned only while studying my masters degree is that History is the key for us to become a better country. It is indeed true that we must learn from our mistakes-we must learn from what happened before, do what our heroes did for the country, do not repeat the mistakes committed by our.  fellowmen.

Perhaps it was really my mistake that I studied just for the sake of passing. But I think teachers, and parents, play a major role in a kid's social engagement. I, for one, enjoyed studying Physics when I was in my fourth year high school. And it was because my teacher was engaging, she enjoyed what she was doing, and it felt to me that she was not just teaching to earn.

But what is more important than enjoyment while teaching is teaching with relevance. Teach why each organ is important, teach why History is essential, teach why Filipino should be learned, teach the essence, teach the relevance.

What kids should learned is that we should study to gain knowledge and not just to earn high grades. I know, that's hard, been there. But grades will only bring you as far as your first job. After that, it's all about what you know.

To my teachers and friends who are now teachers who are reading this, please know that I am not giving out a blind item, I am just sharing what I have observed and what I believe is needed in our country's educational system. Don't get me wrong, despite some of the negative things that happened before, I enjoyed studying-why else would I want to become a teacher myself? I just wish that students will see the "so what?" factor of learning. Because for me, that will spark the social change we all want.

Tinay Rallies Against Marcos Burial

Photo from https://hronlineph.com

Social Media Crossroads

Photo from http://www.tasharuk.net/

After Duterte being the president of the Philippines and ruining international relations (except of China and Russia), Trump being the president of the United State, and now Marcos laid down in Libingan ng mga Bayani, I finally decided that all my social media accounts will not just be used for my love for theater and sharing mg Youtube videos and finding cute stuff over the internet.

I have reached the crossroads of social media.

My social media accounts will be my voice in expressing my opinions on things and issues I feel strongly about.

Enough with my silence on Facebook and keeping it 'clean'. Enough with ranting small things on Twitter. Enough with just selfies on Instagram. Enough with just cutesy stuff on Youtube and Snapchat. Enough with only review here on my blog.

It is never too late to speak up. I was a member of the Oratorical and Debate Council. I am a Mass Communication graduate, currently studying Journalism. And I will use all my social media accounts to spark change.

#LakbayTinay Goes to Tanay

Welcome back to me! With classes done, I am now officially back! And hopefully, I will also be able to update my fanfiction. Although rainy season is officially here in the Philippines, my summer just began and my summer adventure (wow, maraming balak puntahan?) starts with my outing to Tanay, Rizal with my officemates. Lemme start my story with Day 0, Friday, June 3, 2016 after work…

Day 0: June 3-Friday

I was all set for the outing – overnight things (check), toiletries (check), clothes (check), money (check), and most importantly, food (CHEEECK!) I must admit that from 8:30AM to 5:30PM (office hours) I was giddy and truly cannot wait for our outing to start. But then of course, there is work to do so I had to put aside my excitement for a while and do what I must do J

Fast forward to 5:30PM when me and two of my officemates went to the company’s staff house, where we will be staying for the night (we planned on travelling to Tanay, Rizal at 4AM the following day). We first went to the market to buy some rice and eggs for our dinner; an ex-officemate already bought pancit canton, which we will also have for dinner. The ride from our office to the staff house was supposed to be short, but goodness gracious, the traffic was unbelievable that it took us more or less an hour to reach the market. That hour-long drive was almost as long as my ride home! Anyway, we reached the market and bought some supplies and went to the staff house.

Of course, we did not immediately cook our dinner upon arriving to the staff house. Since there is Wi-Fi and TV, we first lounged and busied ourselves with our own technological bubbles (and barely talking to each other). A little later, I decided that I should show off my cooking prowess (naaaks!). By prowess I meant cooking omelet and pancit canton. Goodness, those are the only food I could cook, I could have cooked the rice too, but Ma’am Rose got ahead of me. Boohoo.

Let us assume that my omelet looked like this ;)
And so, Jonalie and I started preparing the ingredients for the omelet. Ma’am Rose said that they have tomatoes and onions… and by onions, she meant a single tiny onion bulb, which I jokingly said that whoever gets a piece of the onion is lucky (that was how small it was). Jonalie began the chopping of the tomatoes and the tiny onion, while I started beating the eggs and later on mixing ‘em up. I really wanted to put more tomatoes but then they said they wanted omelet and not tomatoes with eggs (if you get the joke) so I heated up the pan and stated cooking. I think I did a pretty good job with the omelet… I am waiting for the comments of those who tasted my recipe, LOL J

Is it true that the new Lucky Me! pancit canton tastes different?

Then the pancit canton. Do I actually have to narrate how I cooked four packs of pancit canton? I mean most people are able to cook pancit canton by the age of 12 (or younger even) and if I don’t know how to cook pancit canton, I am so much of a disgrace. Hehe J

We ate, cleared the table and washed the dishes, then we watched TV while tinkering with our phones, cleaned ourselves, and went to bed. Day 0 done!

Day 1: June 4-Saturday

The following day, I completely woke up at around 3:45AM. There was a slight change of plans, but what can we do? And so we prepared and left the staff house at 4:30AM, buying pan de sal along the way for our breakfast and rode the bus to Starmall Crossing, where we will be having a looong jeepney ride to Tanay (yep, we went and will go to outings using public transpo… no cars, no licenses, hehe). We arrived at Starmall at around 5:30 and rode the jeep where I slept almost all the way. I woke up when we were at Baras, Rizal, with a ridiculous smile on my face. Perhaps it was the cold air, or the cute little town, or having slept, or just because I was excited for our trip. Perhaps one of the highlights of our trip was while still riding the jeep, a tricycle driver was tailing us and shouting “Ma’am sa Daranak po, Daraitan,” offering us a ride to our destination. Along the streets were other tricycle drivers shouting the same thing to us.

Daranak Falls
At around 7:30AM, we reached a Jollibee in Tanay, where we decided to stop over to pee (as there is still a long way to go before reaching Daranak). That was when Jonalie told us that she forgot to charge her DSLR! Noooooooooooo! Good thing, the manager of Jollibee allowed her to charge her battery there for 10 minutes (or longer if we dine in, which we did). By 8AM, we were on the go again (and I, secretly praying that the 30 minutes was enough for the camera to last the rest of the day) and we rode a tricycle going to Daranak.

I thought the ride would be short, but it was not! It took us around 20 minutes to reach Daranak Falls! Our driver was very kind and acted as a tour guide. He talked about the specialty foods, Daranak Falls and Daraitan River, Pililla Wind Farm, Mt. Nova (which has eight falls), Kalinawan Cave, the Groto of Our Lady of Rawang with 402 steps, and other fun facts. During the ride, I saw a herd of sheep and I realized that that was the first time ever saw a sheep. Hurray for me!

Batlag Falls
And then, there was Daranak Falls… it was a very beautiful place, very nature-y and peaceful. But I must say I did not truly enjoy bathing there (or at Batlag Falls, where we transferred because it was crowded at Daranak). For one thing, it just rained the previous night and the ground was a bit muddy. And another thing was because the floor of the falls was soil and pebbles combined, which made the river unclear. I was actually afraid of going into the waters because I could not see the bottom or where I was supposed to step next, although I could see that the water is only up to the waists of the tourists. Since the river floor was composed of soil and pebbles, it was awkward (for me) to walk without slippers and so I was wearing mine, meaning to say, I was not really able to swim. Personally, I think Daranak and Batlag Falls is good for bonding and not for swimming. In Batlag area, they have this pool but the water is not flowing so you wonder how many children already peed there ;)

Don’t get me wrong, I truly enjoyed our stay at Batlag Falls, I got to know my officemates better and got to relax in such a natural and beautiful place (while eating junk food, LOL).

By 1PM, more people were arriving and so we decided to pack up and leave, especially that we wanted to climb the 402 steps to the grotto. We texted the tricycle driver who drove us to Daranak and asked him to bring us to the foot of the grotto. There, he told us to leave our things inside the tricycle and bring only the valuables and water. That was really the best advice, because I thought 402 steps was a piece of cake, BUT IT WAS NOT! The steps were uneven and as we climbed higher, the air is also thinning so breathing was a bit harder.

Top of Grotto of Our Lady of Rawang

While climbing and looking around, I realized that the trail was actually for the Stations of the Cross. Obviously, I did not have my prayer book with me and I do not know what to pray for that Stations of the Cross, and so I just murmured Hail Mary’s while climbing the 402 steps. Reaching the top is another story. It was such a perfect place to put up a grotto. I realized there that climbing the stairs is like life, you have to keep pushing forward (or in the grotto’s case, upward) to reach your goal and when you do, you are most fulfilled. At the top, I saw the greens of the mountains, I saw the sky, I saw a glimpse of the world (yes, exaggeration much?) and I was with the monument of Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary. Despite the fatigue of climbing up, it was all worth it because I thought that my journey up strengthened (even by small percentage) my faith and brought me closer to the Lord. Yes, I am being preachy, but the blessed feeling and fulfillment at the grotto was truly magical. I would like to climbed up again, this time, doing the proper Stations of the Cross.

The journey down was less exhaustive, but it was scary because I got to see how high we were and given my fear of heights, climbing down was not the best thing. Good thing there was a hand raid, which I prevented myself from gripping super hard.

Going up
Going down
If the journey up the grotto was tiring, the journey HOME was equally tiring. The only edge of the journey home was at least I was not perspiring nor climbing a very high flight of stairs. Yet still, to get out of Rizal (back to Starmall Crossing) which took more than two hours plus more or less an hour and half back home was still pretty tiring.

More adventures to come!
