Tinay Tries Youtube

Hello guys! Since last September 2016, I've decided to create a Youtube channel, just because I want to try something new. My channel is [kinda] thriving, at the moment I have 21 subscribers and around an average of 40 views per video. But more than the viewers and subscribers and the likers, I enjoy creating materials for my channel. I think it is helping me channel my creativity and explore makeup and creating videos.

However, it would be nice to have more viewers and subscribers. I think it will help me grow as a Youtuber and a content creator, it will help with my creativity, and it's just gonna be more fun when you have a bigger online friends and family. As such, I am promoting my channel (and my Facebook page).

One thing you should know about my channel is that I am not an expert on anything I do there (makeup, singing, and vlogging), just like I did not claim to be an expert blogger here. I just want to try out new things (I've said that already) and have some fun. Actually, that is one of the small things I hate about being a Mass Comm graduate, I know a bit of everything and I want to try doing those things!!! Anyway, going back to my Youtube channel, I just created that (as well as this blog) to have an avenue to explore new things and to grow as a communicator. And while I'm doing my blog and vlog contents, I realized that I enjoy doing them. And I think that is the most important thing about life - doing and enjoying.

Just like when I created my Anjelica Huston Day celebration last January 22... I mean, I re-watched my all-time favorite film and at the same time, I created a Youtube content!

My latest video is a Valentine's date makeup tutorial (of sorts). I hope you'd take 11 minutes of your time and watch it :D

I hope you guys would watch my videos and help me grow :) So, please click the links below and let's be a one big happy family. I would love to hear your SROs: your suggestions, reactions, and opinions. Thank you!!! And just like what I say on my Youtube channel, NO HATE!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANJELICA HUSTON!!!

May you have more birthdays to come!

I guess it was never a secret that Anjelica Huston is my ultimate favorite actress. And I would like to take this opportunity to greet her a happiest birthday. I wish you all the best.

For those who doesn't know, or those who do not bother to care, Anjelica was born on July 8, 1951. You do the math, guys. Yes, she is no longer young, but she definitely the most beautiful woman I've ever saw. By 'saw' of course I meant to see in movies as I haven't had the wonderful chance to meet her personally.

Anyway, I first encountered Anjelica when I watched The Addams Family on August 2007. When I finally realized how much I was 'addicted' to her, I used the ever-trustworthy Internet to search her out. Of course, Wikipedia worked wonders, I learned that she was born on July 8, 1951. Despite my being forgetful about dates, especially during my History classes, Anjelica's birthday was permanently stamped in my mind.

The perfect couple
Anjelica changed the course of my dreams, no joke. Before I really wanted to become a teacher (actually, I still do). I never had a favorite actor or actress. I never dreamed of becoming an actress, because I thought acting was not a worthwhile occupation. And when I fell in love with Anjelica, I not only had my first ever favorite actress, but I thought acting wasn't so bad after all. She started the acting fire in me, which was intensified by my other favorite actors and by Anjelica as well, whom I have been scouting everywhere for her films.

Then of course, there is The Addams Family, my ultimate favorite film. Because Anjelica was in the film, my liking for it intensified. And because of that, I started writing fan fictions about The Addams Family and to be more specific, about the relationship of Morticia and Gomez. Of course, while writing, I would imagine Anjelica as Morticia, and Raul Julia (although I know he is already gone and could never be Gomez again) as Gomez.

My collection ;)
Despite how my family is confused with my liking for Anjelica, I pursued buying, downloading, and watching her films, watching her TV shows, listening to her two solo songs and one group song in Smash, buying and reading her two-part autobiography, and looking for other things that are related to her (like Jack Nicholson's biography, because I know that she would be mentioned there; the novelization of The Crossing Guard; the book sequels of The Prizzi's Honor; magazine clippings that include Anjelica; watching the films her father, John Huston did; watching the films and TV shows which include her brother, Danny Huston, and nephew, Jack Huston; and other stuff I cannot remember at the moment). Years ago, I even would print her photos that I saw online. The collection is huge, as a matter of fact. Thank goodness I now have my own laptop. If not, I would still be printing out her pictures.

Rocking it!
I remember, during one HTML project for my Computer class years back, when we were supposed to create a web site using HTML about anything we want, I created a page dedicated to Anjelica. I still have the file, though I would rather not share it because it was very much mediocre and really looked like the work of a noob.

Much of what I do and think has something to do with Anjelica. Of course, I am no longer as obsessed as I was almost eight years back, when I used to watch The Addams Family and Addams Family Values alternately everytime I get home from school and pretending I was doing my assignment when my mother or my sister arrives. But still, I make it a habit to remember to post a greeting for Anjelica's birthday, what us, fans, call Anjelica Huston Day which we celebrate on the 22nd of January, and on my Anjelicaholic anniversary (September 5).

I made this blog to share how proud I am to be an Anjelicaholic. And partly because I forgot to submit my picture to Sam (the admin of Anjelica Huston Fan Page and another huge fan of Anjelica) for Anjelica's birthday. LOL :D

Now, a message to the wonderful Ms. Huston... Well, Happy birthday, first of all. And I wish you all the best (I think I am being redundant here, hahaha!!) I wish you good health. And I wish you all the blessings the Lord is capable of giving. I also wish to see more of you on films and TV shows. It greatly pleases us, your fans to see you. I also wish you good health. And lastly, I wish you'd come to the Philippines for a late book signing of your autobiography or even just to visit the country. I would really do anything to meet you in person, it's just that I cannot come to the US because, well, it's too expensive for me :)

The most beautiful and the kindest creature to walk the planet
Again, happiest birthday, to you, my greatest idol!!! :D

A Walk with Love and Death

I won't pretend as if I am an expert in critiquing, but I have my own take on the films and shows I have seen. And as a fan of Anjelica Huston, I believe that the actress I am idolizing aren't as bad as critiques think she is. Just like in this film that I am going to review, in which Anjelica was badly reviewed by many critics, I believe that Anjelica's performance wasn't THAT bad. The film I am talking about is A Walk with Love and Death, which is Anjelica's debut as an actress and was directed by her late father, John Huston.

In A Walk with Love and Death, critics said that Anjelica cannot act, which led to the failure of the film. However, I believe otherwise. Not because she is my favorite actress and my claim is biased (it may be but I am doing my best to lessen if not eradicate my subjective point of view), but because I saw that Anjelica can act, though I know she could have done better.

I was really excited when Anjelica Huston Fan Page shared that A Walk with Love and Death is already available in Youtube. So I immediately watched it and I actually expected the worst since it was critically panned when it was shown. At first, I could not concentrate because Anjelica was super duper cute! But I told myself that I need to concentrate so that I can prove the critics wrong. And I was able to do so, if not fully, at least partially.

The first thing I noticed about Anjelica's acting was her eyes were blank in some of the scenes like that when Heron and other soldiers were fighting with the peasants. Another thing I noticed was that Anjelica was not able to show the feeling of being scared just like in the scene where Claudia said "Heron, I'm afraid!", when Claudia had a nightmare of what the peasants did to her father, and during the last scene where Claudia and Heron were waiting for their deaths.

During those said scenes, she was just scrunching up her face and closing her eyes tightly. I see this as a sign that Anjelica knows how to act. I think what only hindered her to giving out more for the role was her reluctance to work with her father.

Anjelica's good points in the film were:

1. Her eyes suggested innocence. That's what made her look even more angelic, besides her cute features.
2. Though at some scenes her eyes look blank, it gave the impression that Claudia was very reserved.
3. Although her eyes sometimes look blank, Anjelica knew how to utilize other parts of her face such as her eyebrows and her lips. I noticed this from the garden scene at the first part of the film where Claudia and Heron first had a conversation.
4. Anjelica can cry and it touches me, really. The scene where Heron found Claudia in a convent and she was narrating what happened the day the peasants attacked their home, really moved me. The way she looked so devastated and broken made me sad and sympathize with the character.
5. During the scene where Claudia and Heron were selling the candlesticks she stole from the convent, I saw Rodmilla de Ghent (a character Anjelica portrayed in the film Ever After). The way Claudia spoke in such demeanor, the way she raised her eyebrow, and the way she carried herself was exactly the same manner Anjelica did Rodmilla.
6. Lastly, Anjelica already established a signature movements like the eyebrow movements, the leaning-forward-when-angry motion, and her loving look to her on-screen partner.

I think it is wrong to say that the film failed solely because of Anjelica's acting. I think the film failed also because of the screenplay. The film was written with too many things happening that the film seemed to be too short for all the things that were happening. Also, since there seemed to be too many things happening in the film, it seemed to be dragging and you get bored of waiting for the next thing to happen.

In totality, I think that the critics were too hard on Anjelica. Yes, her performance was not as good as her next films but it wasn't that bad, considering the factors that affected Anjelica's performance. I know Anjelica could've done better but I think the film helped Anjel grow as both a person and an actress.

All I can say is, I love Anjelica Huston, no matter what. :D

7 is the Perfect Number

They say seven is a lucky number. Some even says that seven is the perfect number. I usually do not agree since I never liked the look of number seven, especially if that is how my grade starts. But I guess, there is always an exemption to the rule. Just like this year, I am celebrating my seventh year of becoming an Anjelicaholic.

Seven years ago, I never liked watching films. I never even thought of having a job in the industry of acting and production. All I thought was that I want to become a teacher, period. But on September 5 of 2007, I saw The Addams Family of 1991 and unwillingly fell in love with the Addams matriarch - the ever so wonderful Morticia Addams.

The first character of Anjelica I ever saw which remained a favorite of mine

I remembered praying before I sleep that hopefully the woman who played Mrs. Addams is still alive. And thank goodness, Anjelica Huston is still very much alive until now.

I remember clearly how I got to watch The Addams Family, as if it was just yesterday. Seven years ago, my Filipino teacher asked us to do a movie review of a recent film. Since I was no film buff, I have to rent from a local video store. So my mom, my sister, and I went to the mall carrying my sister's membership card. When we got there, we got into a fight with the staff there because they said that my sister was not registered and we cannot rent unless we are members. We argued that how could it be possible that my sister is not a member when she has a membership card. It took several phone calls, further arguments, and confirmations until the staff, with their manager, decided that to shut us up, they will give us free membership despite that I was a minor and my sister and I do not have valid IDs in hand. And so I rented the film I wanted to review and reviewed it. I passed my paper and probably got a good score.

Having that membership card entitled me to rent movies, as long as it will be three films per week (as per my mom). And the first movie I rented after the movie review was The Addams Family VCD because I remembered seeing it as a child and being scared of them (I do not know exactly why but probably it was because they were wearing black). Anyway, I rented it on a Tuesday and I had five days before having to return it.

My all time favorite movie

When I got home, I immediately watched it in our desktop computer (we did not have a television set that time). The next day, my sister invited me to watch the film again and I obliged, not telling her I already watched it the day before. Since we did not have speakers for our computer, we had to rely on the CPU's built-in speakers which were not that loud. We already finished the first disk when my sister realized that we can watch with the earplugs on so we can understand the lines. Hence, we watched the first disc for the second time. The next day, a Thursday, I was not able to watch The Addams Family because my mom was already home before I was and she knew I already seen the film and watching it again would not make sense (to her). And then on Friday, I watched The Addams Family again. That was when I realized how beautiful Morticia was.

That started my addiction to Morticia Addams, which led to my addiction to Anjelica Huston. I remember saving up for the VCD of The Addams Family and Addams Family Values. I also remember keeping my VCD of Addams Family Values under my clothes because I was not allowed to buy consecutively. During those hype moments, I would go to the internet shop before going home from school and download loads of Anjelica's pictures and printing them. I would also print fan fictions about The Addams Family and keeping those, together with the pictures, in a clear book which is already thick. I would even print Anjelica's pictures in wallet-size photo paper and just keep them. And funny enough, I still have them at home.

Reading Addams Family fan fictions caused me to write fan fictions as well. And idolizing Anjelica made me want to become an actress as well.

Anjelica Huston has been my inspiration for the past seven years (and plus two other wonderful actresses as well). And I am so thankful to my Filipino for having us make a film review, without of which wouldn't make me know Anjelica Huston.

The magnificent ANJELICA HUSTON!

And I guess, all I want to say is... HAPPY SEVENTH ANJELICAHOLIC ANNIVERSARY TO ME!

To those who still haven't read Anjelica Huston's memoir part 1, order now on Amazon. You can actually order from Fully Booked, but you have to go to their stores personally.

Anjelica's memoir is a wonderful book. It is highly descriptive that you feel as if you are there with Anjelica when she was experiencing those happy and melancholic events.

And coming out this November is the second part of Anjel's memoir titled Watch Me. It will be about her Hollywood life, her relationship with Jack Nicholson, and her wonderful marriage with her late husband, Robert Graham. I assume that it is as wonderful as A Story Lately Told.

Pre-order now on Amazon!

Realization

After thinking deeply and taking into consideration the recent things I learned from a gender diversity seminar (which is another story), I finally got into the concrete conclusion that I AM NOT A LESBIAN. I only idolize older (this is comparing their ages to mine, of course) women not because I am sexually attracted to them, but because I want to be just like them. Of course, I also idolize male figures (preferably older as well), but people make it such an issue when I blab about my female idols.
Let me enumerate and explain (which to others might say ‘defend’) each of my idols:
1.       ANJELICA HUSTON. She is my first ever favorite actress. And I just LOVE HER! She is just a wonderful actress. Her portrayal of Morticia made me want to become an actress myself, despite my previous hatred for the idea, and made me concoct fictions, mostly about the Addams Family. She is also an advocate of anti-animal cruelty, which made me love animals more and hate those people who have pets but do not care about them. Despite many netizens bashing her looks, she remains surgery-free and says, “I’d rather be a blue-haired lady than a woman trying to regain youth by surgery and pulled in all direction,” and I idolize her even more for that. At the same time, I feel the same way. She might not look as youthful as she were when she first played Morticia or when she was Maerose Prizzi, but she has this beauty and elegance that we fans can see and are willing to defend to anyone who protests. She may not be the most known actress in Hollywood, nor the most Oscar-awarded actress (in fact, us Anjelicaholics find her underrated), but she is definitely a superb artist. She is also a survivor (read her autobiography A Story Lately Told), and I wish to be able to surpass the challenges I will face as bravely as she did. And lastly, she is a late bloomer, just like me. Oh, and I love her clothing choice ALWAYS. Probably because according to her, the key is wearing comfortable clothing. And despite her age, she remains chic.

2.       AYEN MUNJI-LAUREL. This woman is definitely GORGEOUS! She has this angelic beauty no one in the right mind can deny. I admit that I first fell in love with her because of her beauty when I saw her in a local soap opera (Amaya), but I got to know her better. She probably, if not really is, is the
kindest celebrity who ever walked the earth. She raised her children well, and it reflects. She is highly religious and she surpassed the hardships life gave her. Despite her stature in life, she remains down-to-earth and accommodating to her jolly, if not annoying (me being one of them) at times fans. She also shares this wonderful marriage with her ever-so-handsome husband, Franco Laurel (whom my friend Gleng Suzara also has a huge crush on). How I wish to have the same marriage in the future. She also has this elegant taste of clothing, no matter what she wears, she never fails to look as if she stepped out of a magazine. She made me love and appreciate the Philippine theater. Oh, and I almost forgot! She has this amazing voice that she doesn’t have to shout the highest notes (like many singers do) just to sound impressive.

3.       BEBE NEUWIRTH. Beatrice is just whoa. She’s not so young anymore but her body will make young men drool and young women like me go into an extensive diet and exercise just to try to have the same body. And having that body allowed her to do Bob Fosse-hard choreographies we witnessed in Chicago, and after her hip transplant, she can still groove. She is not the best singer in the whole world (comparing her to Mariah Carey, of course) but I really admire the set of lungs and pipes she have – can you imagine singing a high-toned song while dancing and still sounding wonderful – now that is talent. She is also a good actress; she already has two Tony’s and few TV nominations, who will say she’s not? Honestly, I would not have paid her more attention if she did not play Morticia Addams on Broadway but seeing her other works made me love her even more. And her beauty is… how do you describe it? I won’t say exotic but it is definitely not the usual American beauty. I admire her experimental taste in fashion but I do not usually agree with what she wears. If Anjel made me want to become an actress, Beatrice made me want to become a theater actress. She showed me the passion one can have just to do one live show. She doesn’t have many projects and as a fan, I demand the big studios and networks to show us fans more of our idol.

4.       MERYL STREEP. She’s such an amazing actress, Academy Awards  and nominations everywhere! And who would think that she is past 60 years old already?! She did Mamma Mia! when she was 59 and it was not reflected on the film.

5.       CHERIE GIL. One word to describe her, elegance. No matter what role she portrays, she always retains this air of elegance but that is not a bad thing. She’s a chic, despite her age. And well, she looks quite a bit like Anjel.

6.       DAWN ZULUETA. Pure beauty. Oozing with talent. And she’s kind, she recognizes the presence of her fans and she has this fans’ club which sends the fans an autographed photo of her when their birthday comes (I received one, yey!)

7.       CARLA GUEVARRA. I only saw her once (in The Addams Family A New Musical at Meralco Theater in which she played Alice Beineki) but I just love her. (Photo credits to @carlaguev from Twitter)

I did not say anything about idolizing actresses only, right?

8.       LIANA BARRO. She’s my Journalism 101 and 103 (News Writing and Investigative Journalism) professor and I just adore her. She teaches as if she’s only playing (which according to her is how she treats her work). Despite her fast-paced teaching and high-standard grading, I learned so much from her. She made me want to become a journalist someday. She’s always busy with work but she never fails to enjoy, party, and relax. I do not know if she knows this but she is a great inspirational speaker. She shares stories of her life, inspiring people like me, without intending to. And the students who passed whatever subject she teaches will surely be successful in life, just like she is. I believe she is highly-religious and family-oriented person. And the brain she has, my gosh, I think she knows everything!

9.       MARILYN BAROJA. She was my Physics teacher when I was in high school. Besides the fact that she is so brainy, I like the way she taught us – going beyond
the borders of the black board because there is so much to write, illustrating how to measure distance and other stuff on the tiled floor, keeping the atmosphere light despite the mega-hard to understand lessons in Physics, and encouraging the not-so-bright classmate/s of mine to try and participate in class. I promised her that I will be a Physics teacher and she keeps on reminding me that every time I visit the school T.T. I remember the time when I was the school’s representative to the Physics quiz bee and I was in 11th  place. I was crying over my loss and disappointing her when she said while laughing at me, “Ano ka ba Jai (my nickname), para ‘tong tanga. Tumigil ka na nga sa pag-iyak, baka isipin nila kung ano ginawa ko sa’yo. Ok lang yan.”

 10.   LILIBETH MAYOR. She was my Biology teacher when I was in high school. She is more of an aunt than a teacher. When I have problems, she’s there to listen. She would ask me to do something for her (may it be redoing her resume, creating a poster (which is still existing, I am proud to say) for the Bio Lab, doing an assignment of her sons Kiel and David) and I will refuse to be paid, she’ll say, “Ang kulit mo talaga.” But when she is insistent, a threat will come if I won’t oblige her. “Magagalit ako sa’yo kapag hindi mo ako sinamahan,” she said when I was too shy (?) to come with her when she ‘kidnapped’ me. She’s like a walking Biology encyclopedia. During class, everything is just a blast – we had jingles and we learn at the same time. Before, the jingles my classmates and I made for Biology were used when we took the UPCAT. Most of us did not pass but we still remember our Biology.

11.   RACQUEL CARACAS.  She was my Earth Science teacher and probably the most terror educator I will ever face. On our first day of class, she scolded us for having a dirty classroom (“Ambababoy niyo! SSC pa man din kayo,” she said.) Outside the classroom, she mother-like, she’ll treat you as her daughter and you can talk about anything under the sun.

I also did not say anything about real persons only, right?

12.   MORTICIA ADDAMS. PERFECT. Perfect life, perfect family, perfect marriage, perfect husband, perfect figure… she’s just the perfect woman! She’s the most beautiful, sexiest, and luckiest woman ever created by the imagination of mortals. She has this dark elegance that will make any man turn and stare and fall in love with her. And there is her marriage with Gomez – she adores him and he adores her more than his life. This is probably the reason why I am still single, my standards for a boy are not so high, just tall, smart, hardworking, kind, romantic, and caring; but my relationship standards are – to have a relationship as perfect as Morticia and Gomez’s. LOL. But the most admirable thing about Morticia is not her appearance, nor her husband and her family, nor her life, but her ability to live her life as simple as possible, as if she does not know how lucky she is. Sometimes, I pretend to be like her.

And lastly,

13.   EUGENIA TERESA “GIGI” T. GAVINO-PUNSALANG. My mom. My mom is not perfect, no one in the living is. But the sacrifices she made to raise my sister and I were enough for me to idolize her. She may be moody at times, I might get into arguments with her, but I love her very much. Sometimes I might not show the love and gratitude I feel for her but I am grateful to God for making my mom my mother. I might kid around and say I wish Morticia Addams will be my mother but I’ll never exchange my mom for anything. I am really scared of working, why? Because I will be away from my mom. I have been so depended with my mom for the past 18, almost 19 years, I do not know how to survive alone.
My mom is so beautiful just like her mom (anyareh saken?!). She’s a great cook. She knows how to tighten her belt even though she already cannot breath. And most of all, she loves me and my sister so much that whenever and wherever we need her, she’ll do everything just to be by our side.

So you see? I just idolize these 13 women’s attributes making me idolize these women themselves. I just summed up my analysis after thinking over whether I am lesbian or not. So I really am not lesbian at any point.

Now the reason for me liking old (comparing again to my own age) people? Well, probably because they already experienced life and they already know what they are doing. They do not just blab around (just like me). And probably because I really am born in the wrong year, instead of 1995, maybe I was supposed to be born on 1985 or 1975 or something.
